Bedtime Update

Breyten is doing really well. He has slept in his crib for almost an entire week (he's never done that in his whole life!) He still wakes up in the middle of the night (like at 4 am, just talking to himself). But, each time he has been able to go back to sleep on his own. Yay for me :)

PS, we have gone 7 months without daddy and it's taking a toll on us... we are ready for him to come home!

Night 2....

So, I waited until after my Memphis trip to start training Breyten to sleep without me. The first night, he screamed for about 30 minutes before going to sleep (because he wanted me). Then, he finally fell asleep and woke up about 3 times during the night (all of which he fell asleep by himself within 10 minutes). Last night, he did sleep all night (actually he's still sleeping which would never happen if he slept with me cause my alarm always woke him up). However, he screamed for about 1 and 1/2 hours before going to sleep. I went into his room every 15 minutes or so. I didn't pick him up, I just talked to him and patted him (at which time he would grab my hands with such strength so that I wouldn't leave him again...) It was very sad and difficult. I want to be able to hold him and rock him... but daddy is coming home in the next 2 months and he can't sleep with us (there is no room!) 

Memphis in March

We had a great time visiting friends and family in Memphis (although we weren't able to see everyone we wanted too :( I was able to be apart of Stephanie's wedding, which was amazing! She was such a beautiful bride. I often wondered who would be good enough to marry my Stephanie, and I feel that Stewart is pretty good. I am really happy for them! Here are some pictures:

Waking up to the News...

Well today's news was depressing. Earthquake in Japan, Tsunami to hit Hawaii and California... Then, I got to thinking, my in-laws and aunt and uncle are on a cruise to Hawaii right now, suppose to return to California tomorrow. Stress me out! No news on them, no one in the family knows how to get in touch with them at this time. So, we are praying that all is well. If something were to happen, I'm pretty certain my father-in-law (retired Coast Guard), uncle (retired Army), and 2 other of their friends (who are all retired Coast Guard) can handle it! Then, I got to thinking, wait, my husband is on a ship and my brother-in-law is too! But, then, they are in a part of the world (last I heard) that is no where near the Tsunami. However, if any Naval ship were to be called to help, it would be the KEARSARGE more than likely due to the fact that it has the largest on ship hospital. Then, I started thinking about my brother Austin who lives 5 minutes from the beach in California. I texted him and told him not to go swimming to day... On top of all this, my Breyten is 7 months old today and he goes on his first airplane ride tonight (which I am nervous about).

Brey's 6 month check-up

So, Breyten went for his well-baby check-up today. He is 17 pounds 8 ounces (40%) and 27.5 inches long (61%). He is a "perfect and happy baby" according to the doctor, except for 2 things. 


One, he is not sleeping through the night. The doctor was so concerned upon hearing this, she asked for how many weeks had he not slept through the night. I wanted to say, "Weeks, try 6 months..." but I simply stated that he had never slept through the night. She said that it was normal for babies to wake up throughout the night but by this age they should be able to fall back to sleep by themselves. Well, that's all good in theory, but Breyten can only do that maybe 10% of the time. For the past couple of weeks, when he has started to cry at night, I wait to see how long it takes him to go back to sleep before I go in. If he isn't asleep by the maximum of 20 minutes (which at this time is always bloody-murder type crying), I get him out of bed and the instant I pick him up, he stops crying. He is a very touch-oriented baby. He doesn't want a passie at night, he wants me whether I am holding him or just holding his hand. Since it's just been the 2 of us for the past 6 and 1/2 months, I don't mind sleeping with him even if that means not getting good rest for me. But, Trenten comes home in 2 and 1/2 months, and we can't do that. There isn't room in the bed for me, Trenten, and Breyten. However, we are about to go to Memphis for 10 days and anything I start training him now, will be out the window upon traveling due to the fact that he doesn't sleep well at all in new places. There was a time way back before my Thanksgiving travels that he was starting to sleep through the night, but all the traveling to see family and friends really messed that up and he hasn't since... 


The second thing is that his circumcision has closed incorrectly. I was really frustrated hearing this because I have been tot he doctor with him 4 different times and each time I have asked if it looked ok. Each time, they always said "it's normal". Well, I was right, it didn't look right. But, she was able to show me how to re-open the part that had incorrectly closed and he wouldn't need another surgery. She started working on it in the office, and it didn't seem to cause him any pain, so that is good. I'm confident that it won't be long for it to heal correctly, just need to use some of my RN skills. I am glad that we did this though, I know that there are lots of parents who have decided to not get circumcision for their boys. It's a very personal decision for any family, and Trenten and I are confident in ours and the reasons why (if you have questions, you can always email me). 


Also, I watched that show "Coming Home" on Lifetime. If you ever get a chance, you should watch it. I can't wait until our hero "comes home"!
